Last updated: November 7, 2026
mjIP — An Intellectual Property Firm (“mjIP,” “the firm,” “we”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect through mjintellectualproperty.com (the “Site”), how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Site only. It does not describe how the firm handles information once you become a client, which is governed by your engagement agreement and the firm’s professional duties of confidentiality.
Information we collect
Information you give us. When you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address and the message you write. If you call or email us, we collect what you tell us, including your contact details.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting systems may record technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit. We use this for security, troubleshooting and understanding how the Site is used.
Please do not send confidential information
Until the firm has confirmed in writing that it represents you, please do not send trade secrets, unpublished invention details or other sensitive information through the Site or by email. See our Legal Disclaimer.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to your questions and schedule consultations.
- Evaluate whether the firm can take on a matter, including conflict checks.
- Operate, secure and improve the Site, and prevent spam and abuse.
- Meet legal and professional obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the contact form to add you to a mailing list without your agreement.
Cookies and analytics
The Site may use cookies or similar technologies that are needed for it to work, to protect it from abuse, and to understand traffic. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, though some parts of the Site may then work less well. The Site does not currently change how it works in response to “Do Not Track” browser signals.
reCAPTCHA and other third-party services
Our contact form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information, such as device and application data, and sends it to Google for analysis. Your use of reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. The Site may also load third-party content such as an embedded Google map and images hosted by other services. When your browser loads that content, those providers may receive your IP address and similar technical data under their own policies.
Who we share information with
We share personal information only as needed to run the Site and the firm and as the law requires. That can include:
- Service providers, such as website hosting, email and form-processing providers, who handle information on our behalf.
- Professional advisers, insurers and others, where needed to protect the firm’s legal rights.
- Courts, regulators or other authorities, when required by law or valid legal process.
- A successor, if the firm’s business or practice is transferred.
How long we keep information
We keep inquiries and related emails for as long as needed to respond to you, to meet legal, professional and record-keeping obligations, and to resolve disputes. If we do not take on a matter, we keep your inquiry only as long as those needs require.
How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect the information we hold. No website or method of electronic transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. This is another reason to avoid sending sensitive details before an engagement.
Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you may have rights under California privacy law, including the rights to know what personal information a business collects and to request that it be deleted or corrected, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. These rights apply to businesses that meet the law’s thresholds, and to the extent they apply to the firm, you may exercise them by contacting us using the details below. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and some information may be exempt from deletion because of the firm’s legal and professional obligations.
Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
The Site may link to other websites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed. Continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
